Just a bit taller than a rugby ball on its end, the Korora is the world’s smallest (and cutest) penguin. And what a worker! It’ll spend all day in the ocean busily catching fish, then trudge up to 1.5km to their nests – in the dark – to hungry chicks! Because of kiwis’ love for coastal property, many Korora are now nesting under houses and even in stormwater pipes and attacks by dogs and other predators have sent their numbers into decline. 31cm high by 20cm wide approximately 300g.
